Guitar Tip #6-- - April 8, 2011

Playing around Melodic Minor chord shapes will give you all the altered sounds you want--cooler than just running the scale.

Guitar Tip #5-- - April 8, 2011

Be able to recite all 12 major triads, in circle of 4ths order, in 12 seconds.....(really, do this...many benefits....).

Guitar Tip #4-- - April 6, 2011

Memorizing chord changes to tunes? Always think in the "universal key" of Roman Numerals. After awhile, this makes playing in all keys easy.

Guitar Tip #3-- - April 4, 2011

Memorizing Flat Five Subs? On the circle of 5ths, the notes ACROSS from each other are a b5 apart....

Guitar Tip #2-- - April 4, 2011

Memorizing ii-V7-I progressions? Moving counter-clockwise, thru the circle of 5ths, every 3 notes are the roots of a ii-V7-I....

Guitar Tip #1-- - April 3, 2011

Be able to name all the notes ACROSS the strings (from low to high) at any fret..hint: think 4ths--3rds between G and B.

Los Angeles Music Academy Press Release - April 1, 2011

LA Music Academy’s Jody Fisher to Co-Chair Guitar Department

Joins Tariqh Akoni as Co-Chair of Internationally Recognized Guitar Program

Pasadena, CA – April 4, 2011 – Los Angeles Music Academy College of Music (www.lamusicacademy.edu) today announced jazz guitarist Jody Fisher’s promotion to co-chair the college’s guitar department, effective immediately. Since 2007, Fisher has taught multiple classes at the school including various Jazz courses, Fingerstyle (technique), Chord Melody and private lessons. Fisher has published over 25 instructional books, is a regular contributor to respected music industry magazines and has performed live and recorded with hundreds of artists – his latest record Impromptu received critical acclaim.

“I was so flattered when the school approached me about the position - the decision was a no-brainer. Becoming co-chair is a great way for me to deepen my commitment to the school and have an even greater impact on the students,” says Fisher. One of the most interesting aspects of the school he says “is that the student body is so internationally diverse. The contributions to the music world from our students and alumni have international impact.”

Fisher, who was born in South Bend, IN, studied at age 11 with his uncle, jazz guitarist Sid Fisher, who spent many years as an RCA recording artist. After moving to Los Angeles as a teenager, he continued to take lessons from top players in the area including Herb Ellis, John Collins and Louis Speigner. Prior to joining LA Music Academy, Fisher has held positions as Professor of Jazz and Studio Guitar at University of Redlands, the University of La Verne and Idyllwild Shool of Music and Arts. Fisher has also served as Associate Director of the National Guitar Workshop. He continues to conduct seminars and clinics across the country. He is a “quick tip” video contributor to LA Music Academy’s YouTube channel and is expected to post within the school’s new music-centric blog, Get to the Music, which launches in March 2011.

First George Benson Vids! - June 16, 2008

I just returned from Phoenix where George Benson and I recorded the first nineteen lessons for workshoplive.com. The lessons cover many aspects of George's style and also include his thoughts on various related topics. Each lesson consists of three or four different scenes. Over three year's we will produce 90 lessons in all.

Needless to say we really had fun during video shoots. The crew at Pure Touch Media was wonderful and did everything they could to make us feel comfortable.

You can subscribe to these lessons at www.workshoplive.com. Every two weeks you will receive two new George Benson lessons. This is due to begin in August 2008. We are all very excited about it.

You can view a couple of photos from the shoot here: http://www.jodyfisher.com/hostbaby/merge?stage=photos.

What Would You Ask George Benson? - May 23, 2008

Hi All,

Well it's been pretty busy around here with students, two book projects, and getting ready for my summer of workshops and traveling.

In about two and a half weeks I'll be in Phoenix AZ, recording instructional videos with Mr. George Benson. I'm very excited about this project.

Mr. Benson has agreed to do a very large number of instructional video sessions at WorkshopLive.com.

I will be creating the content for these sessions over the next three years. In the videos, we will play together, talk a little, and teach viewers many of George's techniques, and ideas about playing, and practicing jazz guitar. The vids will be uploaded to WorkshopLive.com in coming months.

What I want to know is this.....

What would you ask George Benson if you had the chance. I have many questions already, of course, but I want to make sure that I ask questions that most players and students would be interested in. Technique? Practicing? Equipment? Career? Other advice?
Anything goes---
Send your questions to jodyfisher@jodyfisher.com

Instructional Material by the Page!!

If you click on "Buy" and scroll down to the bottom of the page you will find some new instructional material. Because of many requests, I've decided to start selling my individual handouts by the page. These are handouts I use for private students, workshops and seminars. This is different material than is found in my books.

I have literally thousands of pages that I am in the process of converting to PDF files--obviously this will take some time. There are several handouts listed already and more will be added as time allows.

Just click on the link--it will take you to Lulu.com where you can pay and immediately download the file. Most pages are $1.25.
Enjoy!

Have a great month, and don't forget to send me all the George Benson questions you want!
